How do I know if I need a new HVAC system?
We recommend thinking about replacing your system if it is at the 15-20 year mark or there is frequent repairs needed. Ultimately, the only person that can decide when you're ready to replace your system is you!
While to some this could seem self explanatory, there are a number of things to pay close attention to that could indicate that there is repair needed.
Strange Noises: Squealing, Scraping or Grinding
Strange Smells: Burning, Musty/Moldy
System is blowing warm air into your home
Weak air flow
Your thermostat is not working
Rising or high electric bill
Moisture leaking in or around your system
You're probably sweating a great deal more than usual
We recommend annually or bi-annually depending on how often you use your system. Added bonus? We get to check in on how you and your family are doing.
Long story short, there aren't many things that you can do to make the system itself more efficient. A hard start kit can be installed to cause your system to pull less energy on start. Making sure things in your home are set up for success is key. Items such as: Ensuring you have the right sized system for your home (not too big or not too small Goldilocks!), Insulation, Replacing Your Windows, Routine Maintenance and Keeping the temperature inside your home within 5 degrees at all times, can extend the life and efficiency of your HVAC system.
It's normal for temperature to vary in different rooms in your household or space if you have one thermostat. However, temperature variance can also indicate a poor design on your duct work or even air filtration issues.
Allergies are the worst aren't they?? While we don't have medical degrees, we can tell you that checking the type of air filters you are utilizing and how often you are changing them could be an easy fix! Ask our technicians about the types of filters you can use in your home. If you are interested in other equipment because you or any of your family members struggle with allergies, ask us about air cleaners or air scrubbers. But we probably won't bring it up unless you do...because that's awkward.
Most HVAC companies hate this question, but its a good one! As much as we would love to give you a hard answer or even a range, we can't. Our technicians are trained to perform a diagnostic and review the findings with you in a way that you can easily understand before performing your tailored service. Aspects such as: size of your home, your specific needs, brand of your HVAC system, parts and labor all come into play. What we can tell you, is that we understand how stressful unexpected HVAC problems can be, and we are there to give you the best possible solution for your budget, without the sales pitch. We are there to help, not sell you unnecessary services or upgrades to your system.
